Propylthiouracil
Used to treat an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism) by blocking the production of thyroid hormones, and is sometimes used before thyroid surgery or radioactive iodine treatment. It requires regular monitoring of blood counts and liver function due to rare but serious risks of low white blood cell counts and liver damage.
