Seractide acetate is a synthetic tetracosactide (ACTH 1-24) peptide, the biologically active N-terminal fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), used diagnostically to assess adrenal cortex function and therapeutically for its corticosteroid-stimulating and direct melanocortin receptor-mediated anti-inflammatory effects. By binding to MC2R receptors on adrenal cortical cells, it stimulates rapid cortisol and aldosterone synthesis and secretion. It is used in the short and prolonged Synacthen tests to evaluate adrenal insufficiency.
