Technetium Tc 99m (pyro- and trimeta-) phosphates are mixed polyphosphate radiopharmaceutical preparations used for bone scintigraphy, with the pyrophosphate component also enabling myocardial imaging for detection of cardiac amyloidosis and acute myocardial infarction. The mixture of phosphate species provides bone-seeking properties through adsorption to hydroxyapatite in osteoblastic lesions. These formulations represent older generation bone and cardiac imaging agents.
