Tirzepatide
Two incretin receptor systems are engaged simultaneously by tirzepatide, a first-in-class dual agonist at the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide and GLP-1 receptors, sometimes described as a twincretin. Activating both enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon, slows gastric emptying and reduces appetite through hypothalamic pathways.
