Tretinoin
This vitamin A derivative is used topically to treat acne and reduce the appearance of fine wrinkles and sun-damaged skin, and in its oral form (all-trans retinoic acid) it is a key treatment for a specific type of leukemia called acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). Topically, it works by increasing the rate of skin cell turnover; as a cancer therapy, it triggers abnormal leukemia cells to mature and die. Oral tretinoin must never be used during pregnancy due to the extremely high risk of severe birth defects.
