A recombinant human form of hyaluronidase that degrades hyaluronan in the subcutaneous space, used to facilitate the delivery of subcutaneous injections of large biologics such as trastuzumab and rituximab, allowing what would otherwise require intravenous infusion to be given as a brief subcutaneous injection. This enables more convenient outpatient drug administration. It reduces hyaluronan-mediated resistance to fluid flow in tissues to allow drug distribution.
