This synthetic prostacyclin analogue relaxes and widens blood vessels while inhibiting platelet aggregation. It is inhaled to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) by improving blood flow through the lungs. It is also used intravenously for severe peripheral arterial disease and Raynaud's phenomenon associated with systemic sclerosis.
