Resmetirom is a liver-targeted, selective thyroid hormone receptor beta (THR-β) agonist that activates hepatic THR-β to increase hepatic fatty acid oxidation, reduce hepatic lipogenesis, and improve mitochondrial function, directly addressing the metabolic dysfunction driving non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). It is approved for the treatment of adults with noncirrhotic nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis.
