Ytterbium Pentetate
Ytterbium pentetate (169Yb-DTPA) is a radioactive chelate complex where the rare earth element ytterbium-169 is conjugated to diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA), used as a radiopharmaceutical for cisternography and evaluation of cerebrospinal fluid dynamics by intrathecal injection. The radiolabeled complex distributes through the CSF spaces and can be imaged with gamma camera or SPECT to detect CSF leaks, communicating hydrocephalus, and CSF flow obstruction. Its gamma emission profile makes it suitable for nuclear medicine CSF imaging.
