Abarelix
A hormone-blocking injection used in men with advanced prostate cancer who cannot or choose not to have surgical removal of the testes. It suppresses the production of testosterone, which fuels prostate cancer growth, without the initial hormone surge that some other treatments cause. Because of a risk of serious allergic reactions, it is only administered in a clinical setting where the patient can be observed for 30 minutes afterward.
