The hydrochloride salt of betaxolol, used both orally for hypertension and as ophthalmic drops for open-angle glaucoma. As eye drops, it lowers intraocular pressure by reducing the production of aqueous humor in the eye. It is considered relatively safe in patients with mild asthma compared to non-selective beta-blockers.
