A cyclic lipopeptide antibiotic that inserts into and disrupts Gram-positive bacterial cell membranes, causing rapid cell death; used intravenously for skin infections and bloodstream infections caused by MRSA and vancomycin-resistant enterococcus. It cannot be used for pneumonia because lung surfactant inactivates it.
