Guanethidine
An antihypertensive medication that works by preventing the release of norepinephrine from peripheral sympathetic nerves, significantly reducing blood pressure in patients with moderate to severe hypertension. It was widely used before more modern antihypertensives became available but fell out of favor due to significant orthostatic hypotension and other side effects. It still sees occasional use in specialized clinical situations such as ophthalmic drops for glaucoma.
