This antisense oligonucleotide therapy targets the mRNA for apolipoprotein B-100 in liver cells, dramatically reducing production of LDL (bad) cholesterol and other harmful lipoproteins in patients with a severe inherited cholesterol disorder called familial hypercholesterolemia. It is injected subcutaneously once weekly for patients who cannot achieve adequate cholesterol control with standard therapies.
