Vasopressin tannate is a prolonged-acting repository form of vasopressin combined with tannic acid, designed for intramuscular injection to provide slow release of vasopressin for the treatment of central diabetes insipidus. The tannate salt creates a depot formulation that extends the duration of antidiuretic activity compared to aqueous vasopressin, allowing less frequent dosing. It has been largely replaced by the synthetic vasopressin analog desmopressin (DDAVP).
