Cholestyramine
A bile acid sequestrant that binds bile acids in the gastrointestinal tract, preventing their reabsorption and forcing the liver to use cholesterol to produce new bile acids, thereby lowering LDL cholesterol. It is also used to relieve pruritus caused by bile acid accumulation in cholestatic liver disease and to treat diarrhea caused by bile acid malabsorption. It can interfere with the absorption of many other drugs and fat-soluble vitamins.
