Clofibrate
A fibric acid derivative that lowers blood triglycerides and raises HDL cholesterol by activating PPAR-alpha receptors in the liver. Its use has largely been replaced by newer fibrates due to concerns about serious side effects including gallstones and muscle toxicity.
