Tocilizumab
This biologic medication blocks the action of interleukin-6 (IL-6), an immune protein that drives inflammation, and is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, certain forms of juvenile arthritis, giant cell arteritis, and severe cytokine release syndrome (including that caused by COVID-19 or CAR-T cell therapy). It is given either as an intravenous infusion or a subcutaneous injection. Patients need regular monitoring for infections, liver function, and blood counts.
