Chloramphenicol
A broad-spectrum antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, active against a wide range of gram-positive, gram-negative, and anaerobic bacteria. Its systemic use is restricted due to the risk of serious blood disorders, including aplastic anemia. Topical ophthalmic formulations remain widely used for eye infections.
