A calcimimetic agent that increases the sensitivity of the calcium-sensing receptor on parathyroid cells to extracellular calcium, thereby reducing parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion. It is used to treat secondary hyperparathyroidism in dialysis patients and hypercalcemia in parathyroid carcinoma.
