This monoclonal antibody is used to treat HIV-1 infection in adults who are heavily treatment-experienced and whose infection is not adequately controlled with other antiretrovirals. It works by binding to CD4 receptors on T-cells in a way that blocks HIV entry into the cell without interfering with normal immune function. It is given by intravenous infusion every two weeks.
