Povidone-Iodine
Povidone-iodine is a broad-spectrum antiseptic complex of polyvinylpyrrolidone and elemental iodine that slowly releases free iodine, which denatures proteins, oxidizes essential enzymes, and disrupts cell membranes of bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoa, and spores. It is widely used for skin antisepsis, wound irrigation, surgical scrubbing, and as an ophthalmic antiseptic for ocular surface disinfection.
