Urokinase
Urokinase (urokinase-type plasminogen activator, u-PA) is a serine protease enzyme that cleaves plasminogen to plasmin, which in turn degrades fibrin clots, making it a thrombolytic agent. It is used for the treatment of acute massive pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, peripheral arterial occlusion, and to restore patency of occluded intravenous catheters. Unlike tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA), urokinase is non-fibrin-selective and produces systemic fibrinolysis.
