Quinethazone is a quinazoline sulfonamide diuretic structurally related to the thiazide diuretics that inhibits the sodium-chloride cotransporter (NCC) in the distal convoluted tubule of the kidney, reducing sodium and water reabsorption to produce diuresis and antihypertensive effects. It was used for the treatment of hypertension and edematous conditions.
