Technetium (99mTc) apcitide is a radiolabeled synthetic peptide that binds to the glycoprotein IIb/IIIa (αIIbβ3) receptor on activated platelets, enabling scintigraphic imaging of acute venous thrombosis. The technetium-99m radiolabel emits gamma radiation detectable by a gamma camera, allowing non-invasive localization of thrombi in the deep veins.
