Tyropanoate sodium is an iodinated oral cholecystographic contrast agent that is taken up by the liver and concentrated in the bile and gallbladder, making these structures radiopaque for visualization on X-ray imaging. It was used for oral cholecystography to diagnose gallbladder disease and biliary tract disorders. Its iodine content also transiently inhibits thyroid hormone metabolism and was occasionally used to manage hyperthyroidism.
