Vedolizumab
This biologic medication is given by intravenous infusion to treat moderate to severe Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis in adults who have not responded to other treatments. It works by blocking a molecule called alpha4-beta7 integrin, which prevents inflammatory immune cells from entering the intestinal tissue. Because it acts selectively on the gut, it has a lower risk of systemic immune suppression compared to some other biologics.
