Cefotiam Hydrochloride
The hydrochloride salt form of cefotiam is used for parenteral administration in treating susceptible bacterial infections. It retains the second-generation cephalosporin spectrum without the coagulation-interfering side chain of some related antibiotics. It remains in use mainly in Asian and European countries.

Disrupts bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), inhibiting the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis. The resulting cell wall defects cause osmotic instability and bacteriolysis.
