This oral targeted therapy inhibits mutant IDH1 (isocitrate dehydrogenase 1) enzymes, which cause an abnormal buildup of 2-hydroxyglutarate that blocks cancer cell differentiation. It is used to treat acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with IDH1 mutations and cholangiocarcinoma with IDH1 mutations. It can induce differentiation syndrome as cancer cells mature, which requires prompt recognition and treatment.
