Sodium Lactate
Sodium lactate is the sodium salt of lactic acid used as an intravenous fluid component and alkalinizing agent, most commonly as part of lactated Ringer's solution for fluid resuscitation and electrolyte replacement in cardiovascular disease and metabolic acidosis. Lactate is metabolized to bicarbonate in the liver, providing sustained alkalinization. It is also used as a pharmaceutical preservative and tonicity-adjusting agent in ophthalmic preparations.
