Sulfacytine
Sulfacytine is a short-acting sulfonamide antibiotic used for the treatment of acute, uncomplicated urinary tract infections caused by susceptible bacteria. It inhibits bacterial dihydropteroate synthase, blocking folate synthesis and selectively killing bacteria that must synthesize their own folic acid. Its use has declined with the emergence of sulfonamide resistance and availability of more effective urinary tract infection treatments.
