Technetium Medronate
Technetium medronate (99mTc-MDP, methylene diphosphonate) is the most widely used bone-scanning radiopharmaceutical, adsorbing to hydroxyapatite crystals in areas of increased osteoblastic activity and bone remodeling. It is used in whole-body bone scintigraphy for detection of bone metastases from cancers such as breast and bladder cancer, as well as for evaluation of osteomyelitis, fractures, and metabolic bone disease. The three-phase bone scan technique with this agent provides information on blood flow, blood pool, and delayed bone uptake.
