Tobramycin
This aminoglycoside antibiotic is used to treat serious bacterial infections, particularly those caused by gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, including infections of the lungs in cystic fibrosis patients (via inhalation), eye infections (as drops), and severe systemic infections (by injection). It can cause hearing loss and kidney damage, so levels in the blood must be monitored during intravenous use. The inhaled form is used to manage chronic lung infections in cystic fibrosis without the same level of systemic risk.
