A neuromuscular blocking agent that inhibits plasma cholinesterase and potentiates the effects of succinylcholine, extending the duration of muscle paralysis during surgical procedures. It was used in anesthesia practice to allow lower doses of succinylcholine to be used while maintaining adequate relaxation. Its use in modern anesthesia has been largely supplanted by newer neuromuscular blocking agents.
