Segesterone acetate is a synthetic 19-nor progestin with high progestogenic and anti-estrogenic activity, used as the progestogen component in a contraceptive vaginal system (Annovera) that provides up to one year of contraceptive protection. It acts on progesterone receptors to suppress ovulation, thicken cervical mucus, and alter the endometrium, preventing fertilization and implantation. Its unique ring delivery system provides controlled, continuous release over 13 menstrual cycles.
