Technetium Exametazime
Technetium exametazime (99mTc-HMPAO) is a lipophilic radiopharmaceutical that crosses the blood-brain barrier and is retained in brain tissue proportional to regional cerebral blood flow, enabling SPECT perfusion imaging of the brain. It is also used to radiolabel white blood cells for scintigraphic detection of infection and inflammation. Brain SPECT with this agent is used in the evaluation of dementia, cerebrovascular disease, and psychiatric disorders.
