This nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) is used to relieve pain, tenderness, swelling, and stiffness caused by arthritis, including both rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. It works by blocking enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2) that produce prostaglandins, which are chemicals involved in pain and inflammation. Like all NSAIDs, it should be used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest time to reduce the risk of stomach, kidney, and heart side effects.
