Roxadustat is a hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor (HIF-PHI) used for the treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease. By inhibiting prolyl hydroxylase domain enzymes, it stabilizes HIF-alpha subunits, stimulating erythropoietin production and improving iron absorption and mobilization. Unlike erythropoiesis-stimulating agents, it is orally administered and has demonstrated cardiovascular benefits in clinical trials.
