Sodium Picosulfate
Sodium picosulfate is a stimulant laxative prodrug that is hydrolyzed by colonic bacteria to the active diphenol, which stimulates intestinal mucosa to increase peristalsis and fluid secretion, used for bowel preparation before colonoscopy and for the treatment of chronic constipation and inflammatory bowel disease. Unlike many osmotic laxatives, it acts locally in the colon and has minimal systemic absorption. It is commonly used in split-dose bowel preparation regimens in combination with magnesium citrate.
