Abiraterone Acetate
An oral medication that lowers testosterone and other androgens throughout the body by blocking an enzyme called CYP17 involved in their production. It is used to treat advanced prostate cancer that continues to grow despite standard hormone therapy, and must always be taken with a corticosteroid such as prednisone to prevent certain hormonal side effects. Patients need regular blood pressure and liver function monitoring during treatment.

Binds to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors, translocating to the nucleus to modulate gene transcription. This suppresses multiple inflammatory genes encoding cytokines, chemokines, and adhesion molecules while inducing anti-inflammatory proteins.
