Chlorthalidone
A thiazide-like diuretic that inhibits sodium and chloride reabsorption in the distal nephron, producing a longer duration of action than conventional thiazides such as hydrochlorothiazide. It is used to treat hypertension and is considered by many guidelines to be a preferred diuretic choice due to its superior evidence base for reducing cardiovascular events. Electrolyte disturbances, particularly hypokalemia, require periodic monitoring.
