Sulfadimethoxine is a long-acting sulfonamide antibiotic used in veterinary medicine for treatment of coccidiosis and various bacterial infections, and historically used in human medicine for urinary tract infections and respiratory infections. Its prolonged half-life allows once-daily or less frequent dosing compared to short-acting sulfonamides. Like all sulfonamides, it inhibits dihydropteroate synthase to block bacterial folate synthesis.
