Phenyl aminosalicylate is an ester of aminosalicylic acid with anti-inflammatory and antimycobacterial properties that was used as a second-line agent in the treatment of tuberculosis. It acts by competitive inhibition of para-aminobenzoic acid incorporation into folate synthesis in mycobacteria, thereby disrupting bacterial folate metabolism.
