Rubidium chloride Rb-82 is a radiopharmaceutical used as a myocardial perfusion agent in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging to evaluate coronary artery disease and cardiac perfusion defects. Rubidium-82 is a potassium analog actively transported into viable myocardial cells via the Na/K-ATPase pump, with areas of reduced uptake indicating ischemia or infarction. Its very short half-life of 75 seconds requires on-site generation from a strontium-82/rubidium-82 generator.
