Ticlopidine
This antiplatelet medication reduces the risk of stroke in patients who have had a previous stroke or TIA (mini-stroke) and cannot take aspirin. It works by blocking ADP-mediated platelet aggregation, preventing blood clots from forming. Its use has declined due to serious side effects including low white blood cell count and a rare but dangerous blood disorder (TTP), and it has largely been replaced by newer agents.
