This semi-synthetic vinca alkaloid chemotherapy is used to treat non-small cell lung cancer and breast cancer, either alone or in combination with other chemotherapy agents. Like other vinca alkaloids, it works by blocking cell division by preventing the formation of the mitotic spindle in cancer cells. It can be given intravenously or as an oral capsule, and peripheral neuropathy and bone marrow suppression are the main side effects.
