Remimazolam is an ultra-short-acting benzodiazepine sedative that enhances GABA-A receptor-mediated inhibitory neurotransmission to produce dose-dependent sedation and anxiolysis, and is rapidly hydrolyzed by tissue esterases to an inactive metabolite, providing predictable and titratable sedation with rapid recovery. It is approved for procedural sedation and induction and maintenance of general anesthesia.
