Tabelecleucel is an allogeneic (off-the-shelf) Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-specific cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) cell therapy used for the treatment of EBV-positive post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease (EBV+ PTLD) in patients who have failed rituximab or rituximab plus chemotherapy. The EBV-specific T cells are manufactured from healthy HLA-typed donors and selected for HLA compatibility to ensure recognition of EBV-infected lymphoma cells expressing viral antigens. It provides adoptive cellular immunity against EBV-driven malignancy in immunocompromised transplant recipients.
