PEPT1 (PEPT1)

PEPT1
Transporters

Peptide Transporter 1 (gene: SLC15A1), a proton-coupled oligopeptide transporter expressed on the apical membrane of intestinal enterocytes and renal proximal tubule cells. Mediates absorption of di- and tri-peptides from dietary protein digestion and is exploited for oral delivery of peptidomimetic drugs. Recognizes substrates based on peptide bond backbone rather than side chain specificity, enabling broad substrate acceptance.

Ejemplos

  • Valacyclovir (prodrug of acyclovir) oral absorption via PEPT1
  • Cephalexin and other aminocephalosporins as PEPT1 substrates
  • Valganciclovir prodrug strategy for improved oral bioavailability
