Icatibant
This synthetic peptide is used to treat acute attacks of hereditary angioedema (HAE) by blocking bradykinin B2 receptors. Bradykinin is the main mediator of the severe swelling episodes that characterize HAE, and blocking its receptor rapidly reduces swelling in the skin, abdomen, and airway. It is self-administered by subcutaneous injection at the first sign of an attack.
